Okay I know I know, it isn’t Monday. But music Wednesday doesn’t have the same sound as music Monday. Besides I was out of town and didn’t have time to post until now.
I got a cd in the mail a couple of months ago from aware records who has a rep program, so they send you cd’s in the mail of new bands to check out and then you just review the cd and go on your merry way. I have heard of lots of good bands from this method, and then some not so great.
If you have not heard of Newton Faulkner I suggest you go to itunes and take a listen and then go buy his album. It is hard for me to categorize music but I guess we could put him in the folk/rock category. He has lots of fun songs and his sound, voice, and style can change throughout the album which makes it an interesting album. Take a listen and see what you think. Some of my favorite tracks are “People should smile more” and “She’s got the time” and “To the light”.

I know it has been a little while since my last update, I have plenty of pictures to share but have been busy and haven’t had much time to edit photos as I would like to have.
I spent Friday-Monday in Arkansas being the best man in my friend Darren’s wedding. He got married at Thorncrown Chapel in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, which is an amazingly beautiful chapel. It was rated one of the top 10 architectural designs in some architectural magazine(seriously), because it is made completely out of glass and wood. It is also in the middle of the forest, so just imagine how beautiful something like that could be, those that can’t imagine I’ll try posting some pictures. I was really preoccupied with being the best man that I actually didn’t have the chance to take many pictures but I have tons of friends who did take pictures so I will snag some from them. One of the craziest stories to share from the weekend is when a crazy storm blew through an hour before the ceremony which blew over this huge tree that blocked the path to the chapel and caused people to have to walk through mud to get into the chapel. Not to mention other trees falling on and around the church causing people inside the church to wonder why they were standing in this beautiful death trap made of glass, haha. We were able to find a nice large plastic bag to put on the ground so Lindsey (the bride) wouldn’t have to get her dress all muddy. The ceremony and the rest of the day ended up being perfect, Darren and Lindsey remained calm and in good spirits, which is all you can do in that situation, besides there wasn’t much else that could top a tree falling in front of the chapel! My wife and I had a great time and it was a nice little vacation.
Once I have some pictures to share I will update this post for you!

Time for another addition of music Monday. Okay okay you got me, I have never done music Monday before. But I would like to start sharing some new music. I used to LOVE listening and finding new music, I was obsessed with finding new up and coming artist. I started listening and going to see John Mayer in 2000 before he had a major record label release, the shows were small and intimate and it was such a cool time to watch him grow to what he is today.
But ever since I graduated college and started teaching I have lost touch with the music world, and it has made me sad.
Last month I slowly started back up again and started to listen to new music, before last month I was still listening to all the same songs I was 4-5 years ago. Wasn’t really branching out because of time and laziness.
The artist I would like to share with you today is actually a friend of mine that I have known since my high school days. I do not know if I am allowed to call a guy I haven’t spoken to in about 3 years a friend anymore though? Maybe he will talk to me after this post. Who knows? I started to hang out with Ryan back when he had a band called Rubix Groove, I used to do lots of their photography and graphic design. Boy was it awesome (very sarcastic). Later the band split and Ryan continued to pursue his music career. I continued doing his photography and web design with help from his brother Marc. During this time I did not know anything about photography and started shooting with one of those digital cameras that stored photos on floppy discs(haha) and then I graduated to the sony digital camera that had a long barrel lens. I was high class. Everything was shot with automatic settings. Here is one of my old shots of Ryan, don’t laugh to hard, this was one of my best shots.

Ryan just released his 3rd album last week on March 14,2008. I got to listen to it before it came out and just bought the album today. I have to say that regardless of him being a friend I am extremely proud of how far he has come. He put everything he had into this album. Every dollar he has earned up to this point went into producing this album the way he wanted it to be done. The music sounds great, it isn’t very “pop” sounding like some of his older stuff, it is a little more edgy but not by much. His new look on the other hand….haha I don’t know what to say. I think he looks like Santana.
Please go out and buy this album and support this guy. He deserves much love for all the work and money he put into the album. I wish him the best!
On a related side note : You can find my right shoulder for like a millisecond in his music video On the Way Down. But only in the wide screen version lol. I am on for like a full second on the first season of the Ashlee Simpson show when she had the episode of making Ryan’s video. So yeah, I am pretty famous. (Kidding!)
